Problem:

I'm unable to connect to FTP after the changes on 1/4/07.  What do I need to do
to get connected again?

Solution:

Now that unsecure FTP is no longer allowed, all connections must use Secure FTP.
 This means that browser-based FTP and FTP programs that don't support a Secure
FTP connection will no longer be valid means of connecting to transfer files on
the NC State system.  For more information on this change, please visit:

Browser-based FTP and versions of Dreamweaver prior to MX 2004 do not support
secure FTP.  

To connect via WinSCP, a freeware FTP program which supports secure FTP, head to
for setup instructions and download:

   http://oit.ncsu.edu/afs/winscp

To connect via Fugu, a freeware FTP/SCP program for Mac OS X, head to for setup
instructions and download:

   http://sourceforge.net/projects/fugussh/files/


For users using Dreamweaver CS5.5, the instructions below will allow you to
connect using Secure FTP:

1.  Go to the Site menu.
2.  Select "Manage Sites."
3.  Select New...
4.  Give your Site a name.
5.  Select Servers on the left and then the "plus" symbol to add a new
server.
     Server Name: <up to you>
     Connect using: SFTP
     FTP Address: ftp.ncsu.edu
     Port: 22
     Username: <your Unity ID>
     Password: <your Unity password>
6.  Click Save to save the FTP settings
7.  Click Save again to save the Site
8.  Click Done to exit Manage Sites

After that you should be able to connect using Dreamweaver again.
