Problem:
Whenever I try to send out messages using Messenger in Netscape 7, I get
an error to the effect of "Permission denied". Why is this
happening?
Solution:
This problem arises because Netscape is trying to save a copy of your
message to a location that it does not have permission to save to. The
default setting in Netscape 7 is to save copies of your sent messages to
a "Sent" folder that is placed on the same hierarchical level as your
INBOX. However, on our IMAP servers, mail clients do not have access to
any space other than the inbox (userid.mail.ncsu.edu). All IMAP folders
instead are stored as subfolders of the inbox.
To remedy this situation, you will need to change the settings for the
Sent folder by following these directions:
- Open Netscape Messenger.
- Click on Edit and select "Mail and Newsgroup Account Settings".
- On the left pane select "Copies and Folders".
- At the top of the right pane will be a checkbox next to "Place a copy
in:". This will be checked and the first radio button below it will be
selected. You will want to change the selection to the second radio
button next to "Other".
- Now select a place to save your sent messages. Click on the pull-down
bar and select your account (UnityID@unityid.mail.ncsu.edu). Then
select the inbox and highlight the sent folder within the inbox.
This will save a copy of all of your sent messages to the sent folder
that is a subfolder of your inbox. If you would rather not even save
any messages, simply unclick the "Place a copy in:" checkbox at the
top
of the screen. This will save quota in your IMAP account.
