End of Life for Symantec Services on Campus |
| |

Because our license for Symantec products will expire prior to the end of the fiscal year, the campus parent servers for Symantec products were taken offline on June 22. Existing Symantec clients will begin complaining about virus definitions being out of date within about 30 days as the client tries to connect to the parent servers.
Users will need to upgrade to our new antivirus products: Trend Micro OfficeScan 8 for Windows, and Intego VirusBarrier X5 for Mac OS X.
Client downloads and further details are available on the NCSU Antivirus Resources website: http://www.ncsu.edu/antivirus |

End of Life: "ssh.ncsu.edu" and "login.ncsu.edu" |

On Tuesday, June 30th, OIT will deprovision the public remote access servers known as "login.ncsu.edu" or "ssh.ncsu.edu". This resource has been replaced by more robust services on campus, such as VCL for program access and ftp.ncsu.edu for remote file transfer (including SFTP), and the decision has been made not to renew hardware resources on these machines.
Linux images can be reserved through the VCL if an ssh-style environment is needed. |
